This morning (Tuesday, September 16th) at approximately 3:07 AM, we were awoken by the sound of a large vehicle idling outside of our house. I could faintly hear voices outside of the house but didn't get out of bed thinking it was probably just a neighbor coming back from a fun night out. After several minutes, I heard the sound of vehicle doors slamming shut and the heavy acceleration of a truck. At this point, I jumped out of bed and ran to the bedroom window to see a white box truck (similar to the above picture) travelling down the street. Thinking the worst, I ran down the stairs and checked the house and garage but nothing seemed to be out of place. It was probably nothing, but I thought I should post this on the blog in case somebody on the street believes they were robbed this morning. My apologies if this truck belongs to you and was on Greany Drive for legit purposes.
Recently a few emails have gone around the neighborhood discussing the possibility of creating a Fuel-Oil Co-op for this winter's home heating oil contracts. Although many us presently use different oil companies, there may be a way to save significant dollars if we all contracted through the same vendor (see article, How to Save Money by Starting a Fuel Co-op). With the recent cut in production by OPEC and the hurricanes in the gulf region, it certainly looks like oil prices may escalate this winter. With this in mind, now is the perfect time to pool our buying power and reach out to a local oil company with a co-op proposal. From our initial research, it looks like we will need to have at least 10 homes participating (or 10,000 gallons) to meet the general minimums required. If your are interested in putting this idea into action, please post your comments and suggestions to this blog so that we can get create a legitimate 'game plan'. I suspect we will want to designate a point-person to be responsible for collecting our individual oil needs (how many gallons you used last year, the price per gallon, the vendor you used, etc.). Any volunteers? By the way...we think this is a fantastic idea and we thank the neighborhood resident that came up with it! - Andrew & Susan (6Greany)
Many dogs on Greany Drive and Tracy Ann have already expressed their approval for the newly painted fire hydrants. "These hydrant's are the best in town and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else," barked one local dog who was marking his territory and did not want to be identified. According to Grafton Fire Chief, Manny Burns, it is unknown which fireman used his artistic talent on the hydrants. "My boys obviously have way too much free time on their hands," stated Burns. Local resident Susan Burton was also happy to see the new layer of paint and remarked that the hydrants reminded her of the 80's band DEVO with their "cute little red hats."
